Let's talk about the experts. You know, the ones, white coats, big titles, even bigger egos. They've got all the fancy jargon and neatly packaged systems designed to make you feel like they have the answers. And for a while, maybe it works. Until it doesn't. Until you're right back where you started, wondering why you've done everything right and you still feel like fucking shit. In today's episode, I'm breaking down the real reason why you're stuck and introducing you to the five survival based archetypes I've seen in hundreds of clients. We're diving deep into the mind body symptom connection, the four energy bodies, and how to stop chasing symptoms and start coming home to yourself. See, we used to trust systems, doctors, institutions, the one wellness guru with the perfect skin and a cow cow ceremony for everything. But now. The healthcare system is clogged with paperwork. The alternative world is selling high vibe as a cure, and we're stuck somewhere in between green juice and God, just please fucking help me feel better. So when you start trying everything, therapy, EFT, somatics, astrology, acupuncture, shadow work, maybe you're meditating at dawn and Microdosing at noon. Maybe you've rage screamed into a pillow journaled until your fingers cramped and cleansed every trauma outta your damn kitchen pantry. And yet nothing actually really shifts. You're still bloated, still anxious, still spiraling and shame. Every time you binge or skip a workout, you spent years searching for the thing. And I'm here to tell you. Girl, you are not crazy. You're not even lazy. You're not even broken what you are. Well, you're stuck in a loop that most people never escape. The loop of outsourcing your damn healing, because deep down, you know, it's not out there, the answers aren't in another protocol of another practitioner or a perfectly curated morning routine. They are in you. And that's the problem because when you've been conditioned to doubt your body, override your instinct and intellectualize your pain. The idea of trusting yourself feels like a foreign language, but your biology, well, she's been speaking this whole damn time, and now science is catching up to what your body has always known. That your beliefs, yes, your thoughts not just shaping your mood, they're shaping your entire biology. Researchers like Dr. Crom and Dr. Ellen Langer are proving it that your thoughts don't just influence healing. They initiate it. Hormones, neurotransmitters, immune cells, cellular repair, all impacted, all responsive, all waiting for your inner world to shift. So if you've ever wondered why you still feel sick, stuck, inflamed, anxious, or exhausted, even after doing all the right things, this is your invitation to stop searching and start listening. Because healing it's not just about thoughts, it's about the energy behind them. It's about the beliefs buried in the nervous system, the emotions your body never got to process, the identities you built to survive. And it's about finally learning to decode the signals your body's been screaming through symptoms, cravings, shutdowns, and exhaustion. Welcome to Embody this, the NO BS Healing podcast for women who are done playing small. I'm Lauren Michelle Jewel, a single sober business owning badass who has been humbled as hell by healing. But I'm not just someone who's lived it. I've studied it, coached it, and helped women walk through it for over seven years in mind, body health, gut brain science, and nervous system healing. I've worked with women who have tried everything, therapy, diets, supplements, self-help work, but still feel disconnected from their bodies, their health, and their truth. Because here's the thing, healing isn't a trend. It's not aesthetic. It's not an identity. Healing is embodied, and let me be real with you, it's hard as fuck and it's also rewarding as fuck. I know because I've lived it. And along the way I realized something. Modern healing methods are failing us. Everything is compartmentalized. Go to therapy. They say, take the supplements, do the inner work, but no one teaches you how to actually integrate it. All this show is for you if you're ready to rethink healing. It's not about being perfect, being a wellness influencer or having a PhD in biohacking. It's about undoing, unlearning, and finally coming home to yourself. Quick disclaimer, this podcast is for educational purposes only. It's here to expand your mind, challenge old narratives, and empower you with knowledge. It's not a replacement for medical advice. Always consult a professional when making health decisions. If this episode hits home, follow the rate it, review it, share it with someone who needs to hear it, because you never know whose life you might change. Now let's fucking go. I can't tell you how many women have come to me saying, Lauren, I've done the gut protocols. I've done therapy. I've done breath work, I've done the diets. So why the hell do I still feel stuck? And my response is always because no one's ever taught you how to speak the language of your body. See modern healing has become a checklist. Cut gluten, take magnesium, do your cold plunge. Find a breath book teacher. Maybe some reiki. Maybe it's this, maybe it's that. But healing isn't about fixing parts of you that are broken. It's about decoding the signals your body has been sending you all along. See, your symptoms aren't random. They're not your fault, and they're definitely not some cosmic punishment for not meditating hard enough. Their adaptations, biological, emotional and energetic strategies your body created to survive. Your body is doing exactly what it's been programmed to do. We've just been treating symptoms instead of addressing the root. The traditional healthcare model taught us to see symptoms as enemies. Think about it. If you're bloated, they say, take a laxative, maybe. Take this medication. If you're anxious, pop a pill. If you're exhausted, caffeine and hustle culture, diabetic, well, obviously you need medication and insulin. amphetamines, right? There's a solution, there's pill for every ill. we cover it up, we bandaid it, we get rid of the symptom, but we actually don't look. What's going on underneath it. So if we have a headache, we take a pain reliever, but that's not actually addressing the pain. If we have a UTI, we take the medication that causes our P two B yellow, that doesn't actually get rid of the UTI. It just relieves the pain. But underneath all of that, there's still a infection going on. Correct. So here's the truth, the bloat, the anxiety that fatigue, the deeper, more nuanced symptoms, it's not just a problem. They are a message. And when we only treat the surface, we miss the deeper wisdom underneath. So you can cut out the sugar, you can balance your macros, and you can still feel like shit because the issue isn't always physical. It might be emotional, it might be mental or spiritual. And that's why in my work, we don't just address symptoms. We look at the system, and by system I mean all four layers of your human experience. So your physical body is where the symptoms manifest. Your emotional body is where trauma, feelings, and your nervous system responses live. Your mental body is where your beliefs, your identities, and your self-perceptions operate. And your spiritual body is where your soul, your intuition, and your life force resides. In quantum medicine, there's a concept called downward causation, also known as the descent of consciousness. And it's the idea that consciousness creates matter, meaning your energy, beliefs and emotional experiences trickle down into your biology. In a side note, I have a five day live recorded event called Body Love Blueprint on this entire concept and topic if you wanna learn more, but just remember it's not just Mind Over Matter, it's mind into matter. So here's how it plays out. A wound begins in your spiritual or mental body. Something like, let's say I'm not safe to rest, or I have to be perfect to be loved. That belief creates emotional tension. You might not even realize it's there, but it shows up as pressure, anxiety, resentment, or fear that emotional charge floods your nervous system and your body doesn't feel safe. So what does it do? Well, it adapts. It goes into sympathetic overdrive. Cortisol spikes, digestion, slows down hormones, tank, and now the belief has become a symptom. Fatigue, bloating, anxiety, insomnia, cravings, hormonal chaos. Let me paint the picture for you a real life story of a client that I had. We're gonna call her Sarah, just for privacy sake. She came to me with chronic constipation, insomnia, weight loss resistance, and relentless perfectionism. On the outside, she was crushing life, high level career, tracking her macros, doing yoga, taking the adaptogens like it was her day job. But her body was stuck, right? She was still bloated. She was backed up bracing. On the surface, you would think that it was just a gut issues. And physically. Sure. Her digestion was shut down, her circadian rhythm was off. Her stomach acid was low, and she had major microbiome imbalances. But here's the piece. Most protocols miss her body wasn't broken. It wasn't just a lack of magnesium or sun or stress management, it was bracing. So When we got into the deeper work, leveraging the Multim modalities that I provide, when working intimately with my clients, we uncovered a core belief that said if I slow down or mess up, I'll be rejected. Now that belief had turned into an emotional pattern of overperforming and self-rejection, so it led to her body always being in constant sympathetic activation, which just means she was in survival mode. Her body was constantly bracing and constantly in self-judgment, and stressed out that her digestion couldn't let go because she couldn't let go. She was bracing. And so yes, we addressed her physical terrain. We rebuilt her stomach acid, we repaired her gut lining, and we restored mineral deficiencies and realigned her circadian rhythm because the constant survival and sympathetic activation led to those imbalances. So we had to address the biology first. But it wasn't until we actually added in the somatic and energetic healing, unwinding those stored emotional patterns, bringing safety into her nervous system and helping her release the belief that stillness equals danger, that her body could finally receive the nourishment.'cause she had already started doing a lot of that work, but it wasn't actually being received. It was being wasted. It was being turning into really expensive supplements, being pissed out essentially. So we had to actually go back and finish the emotional charge that got clogged up back when that belief was created to allow her body to finally go into homeostasis. And that's key. You can do all the right physical things, but if your body is still running on the blueprint of fear, it won't let it land. And vice versa. You can do all the somatic, energetic, and emotional release work, but if you're not addressing the biological imbalances that came from the dysregulation of the body, it's going to stay in survival. So it's a both and not one or the other. And listen, Sarah's story isn't unique if you're listening to this right now, thinking, wait, that kind of sounds like me. It's not because this isn't, it's a common thread. I see it in nearly every woman I work with. They're just different flavors. Whether you're in burnout, binge cycles, people pleasing, emotional numbness, anxiety, gut issues, or just flat out exhaustion, it's not a willpower issue. It's not that you're doing it wrong, it's that your body is running on survival mode. And when your system isn't wired for survival, everything gets rerouted. Your hormones, your digestion, your sleep, your ability to feel and receive. Why? Well, because your nervous system doesn't give a damn about your green smoothie. I've said this before, if just thinks you're in danger, so does not care how expensive it was and how much protein it has in it, or the collagen that you bought last week. What's really happening is that chronic stress activates your HPA access, the system that governs your stress hormones, and that system floods your body with cortisol and that cortisol steals from your sex hormones. It shuts down digestion. It messes with your blood sugar, and it wires your brain to focus on survival, not connection, not intuition, and not regulation. And your body will stay in that loop because to your physiology, survival actually equals thriving. So it confuses actual thriving and homeostasis with a threat and survival feels like home. So this is why not only do we maybe have symptoms, but we also may be attracted to red flags because this blueprint and this understanding of survival mode does not just play out in our physical health. It plays out in our love relationships and our relationship to food and our business. We'll see the same patterns imprinted every single place of our life, and that's why I love this work because I love finding patterns. So this is why your symptoms haven't budged, because your body is still doing its job. So if you're stuck in anxiety, it's because your system learned that vigilance equals safety. If you're stuck in bloating or constipation, it's because your system doesn't feel safe enough to digest and release or let go. Side note, listen to the episode and let that shit go. If you do struggle with constipation and bloating, because I go deeper into the emotional and nervous system root of what's going on. If you're stuck in burnout, it's because your body's been pushing through for so long that it doesn't know how to power down without bracing for collapse. Now, here's the really wild part. Most of the women that I work with say the same thing to me. But I don't really feel that stressed. And this was me by the way. I was like, I don't really feel that stress. I don't know, like I'm pretty good. I meditate, I do breath work, I take adaptogens, right? I do all these things. I eat well, so I get it.'cause when survival mode has been your baseline for decades, when you live your whole life in hustle, high achieving people pleasing energy. Stress doesn't feel like panic. It doesn't feel like breakdown. It just feels like normal, like just how life is. But being biologically in survival mode doesn't always look like crying in your car or snapping at your partner. In fact, most of the time it looks functional. It looks like the woman who gets shit done. So if you're listening to this thinking, well, just not that stress, Lauren. But I'll keep listening. Let me walk you through what it might actually look like. So survival mode can sound like a brain that never shuts off racing thoughts at 11:00 PM constant overthinking. The inability to make a simple decision without spiraling into worst case scenarios. That all or nothing mindset where you're either on or you're failing. It can feel like needing to be productive every damn second because rest, feels unsafe or lazy or like you're falling behind. Even when you're ahead, it can feel emotional, but not in the way that you think. So it's not always sobbing on the fetal position, or sometimes it's just nothing like numbing out with food. Work scrolling. Even spiritual self-help content. Sometimes it's snapping over something small or shutting down completely. It's being terrified to disappoint people. It's not being able to cry or crying for no reason and not knowing where it's coming from. It's being so disconnected from joy that you can't remember the last time you felt present, like fully in your body. And energetically you feel wired, but tired, exhausted, but you can't stop moving. Sitting still feels unbearable. Silence feels like a threat. There's this constant low grade urgency humming under the surface, like something bad is about to happen, but you can't name what. And then your body starts screaming, right? Your gut's all over the place. Bloating, constipation. Maybe you have reflux diarrhea. Maybe your period goes missing, or your PMS makes you feel like a different person. You're so tired. Even after eight hours of sleep, you feel like you're dragging through wet cement, you're craving sugar, carbs, caffeine, anything to stay afloat. Your muscles are tight, right? Maybe you struggle with jaw clenching, shoulders locking neck pain, back pain, TMJ, ear ringing, eye floaters, shortness of breath, like your body's whispering. I can't keep holding onto this, so no, you might not feel stressed, but your body, she's holding the receipts and she's been trying to tell you that this is not sustainable, but were just like, this is normal. So, let's pause for a second. Let's actually feel the difference between survival mode and healing mode. If you're somewhere You can close your eyes, go ahead and if not, just gently bring your awareness inward. Take a breath. Not a perfect one, just the kind your body already is asking for. Breathe in through your nose, down into your belly, and hold it for a second and just let it all out. Maybe dropping your shoulders from your ears, releasing your jaw, and I just want you to imagine your body like a bucket. And every moment of stress, big or small, gets poured in. It starts filling up and it becomes like a clogged city. The drainage pathways start to fill up and it gets more toxic. And toxic the more that we're pouring in. So that breakup, it's another cup pouring in that job you hate, but feel trapped in another pour every day, every moment, skipping meals, running on coffee, pleasing everyone, ignoring your body more and more and more. Now, picture that bucket heavy, sloshing, overflowing. You start to feel it in your gut. Bloating, cramping, constipation. You feel it in your chest, tight, shallow, buzzing. You feel it in your sleep, your cravings, your weights, your cycles, your skin, and yet you're still going. You tell yourself I'm fine. I just need to push through. Yeah, baby girl. That's survival mode. That's not a mindset, that's not just a feeling. It is a physiological pattern that your nervous system, hormones and energy field are trapped in. But now let's shift. Take another breath, and this time imagine what it would feel like if your body actually believed I'm safe. I am fed. I am supported. It is safe to receive. What other people think of me is none of my fucking business. I am my own validation. I am love. Success is my birthright. Bliss is my birthright. Loving my goddamn body is my motherfucking birthright. Your jaw softens your gut untwist. Your breath deepens. Your heart slows, but deepens with every pump. Your heart connects to your brain, your gut, your body feels fluid. Confident, empowered your shoulders ungrace. You stand taller. You feel relaxed.'cause you know that you're not in control, but you trust in the universe. You trust in everything's happening for your highest good. You are no longer scanning for the room for danger. You're scanning your life for the possibility, for the potential. Now, that's creation mode. When you're in your creativity, your sensuality, you can feel your body. You trust your body. You feed your body. You know your body. You know that you can't trust everyone, but you can trust yourself to make the right decision. That's where a true healing happens. It's not in fear, not in control, not in a dressed up form of control like perfectionism or manipulation, but in safety, this is where your body can finally absorb the nutrients, regulate hormones, repair tissues, process, emotion, and receive what you've been working so hard to give it. And here's the truth, that changed everything for me. Health is energy in motion. So if your energy is stuck emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or physically, your body will show you. Those symptoms are not random. They are signs that your energy system is backed up, burdened or blocked. We see this a lot in relationship when they're not right for us. We may have mold, parasites, heavy metals, but the reason why we are susceptible to those things is because the terrain, right? Whether we've had trauma, unspoken resentment, we're overgiving, perfectionism, it all goes into the same bucket, weakening the terrain to be susceptible to certain toxins. And when we have. An unhealthy environment, let's say an unhealthy relationship that we're in, or a job that we're in constantly day in and day out, our body becomes susceptible to disease or discomfort. The absence of ease, dis-ease, right? So we'll see. A lot of times as women will lose our period, our pH will get off balance. We will gain weight'cause our body's protecting us, right? Our metabolism slows down. We feel anxious. We can't sleep properly. Our body speaks, it knows. It tells us when we're not in a healthy situation, we have to learn the language of the body. It's not here to hurt us. It's not here to ruin our lives. Even though we feel like we wanna fit in those pants and the fact that we can't, and oh God hates us, that's not the case. The body is speaking to us. We just need to learn the language. This is why no amount of kale or cardio will fix what's happening if your energy isn't flowing. So it's learning. Where, what system? The physical, the mental, the emotional, the energetic, the spiritual. What system is blocked right now? Where have you been focusing too much on and not enough on? Right, because when your energy stays stuck long enough, it doesn't just show up as a symptom. It starts to shape your entire identity. It influences the way that you think, the way that you relate, the way that you abandon yourself over and over again just to feel safe. And that's the deeper cost of survival mode. It doesn't just affect how you feel. It reshapes how you believe you have to be in order to belong, succeed, or stay safe. But no one told us that you didn't choose burnout, right? You didn't choose emotional numbness or people pleasing your body, chose it for you as a brilliant adaptive response to keep you alive. In my job. Well, my job is to help you dissolve the shame, the guilt, the judgment you've placed on the very parts of you that made it possible to survive. See that shame and that judgment and that guilt actually keeps you in survival mode. But once you understand that the shadows were born outta protection, and every shadow contains a gift. And that shadow is actually protecting the gift. It's guarding it. So every coping mechanism, every pattern, every flaw you've carried, it holds immense wisdom. And when we learn to meet it, not fix it, but honor it, we unlock the party you that's been buried beneath survival, your wholeness. And that's exactly what led me to develop the archetypes. See, after years of working with women, high functioning, self-aware, doing all the things women, I started to see the same deeper patterns showing up again and again. It was predictable. And then I started to look into the science and I started to see these patterns. They weren't just in health symptoms, but they were in the way that they moved through their life and the stories they told themselves and the way that they overrode their bodies and called it discipline and the ways that they overgive and called it love, and the ways that they numbed and called it control. These patterns weren't just random. They were survival strategies rooted in stressed, shaped by trauma, and reinforced by a world that rewards disconnection. And because these women were so used to performing wellness, checking every box, doing every protocol, they couldn't see that the very identity driving their healing was the same one, keeping them stuck. And that's when it hit me. They didn't need more information. They needed a mirror, a way to finally see how their nervous system had been calling the shots. A way to connect the dots between their symptoms, their behaviors, and their unprocessed emotional blueprints. and that's what these archetypes do. They reveal the specific ways your body has adapted to long-term stress, how your biology, your beliefs, and your behaviors have been working together to protect you. But now you are safe enough to choose something else. Now before I introduce the archetypes I want to bring you behind the scenes of like how they came to life, because I didn't pull these patterns out of thin air. I didn't meditate on a mountain and download a five part framework, right? These archetypes were born from observation, hundreds of hours, sitting with clients, mapping their symptoms, hearing their stories, watching how the same struggles kept, showing up in different forms, different symptoms, different backgrounds, but always the same deeper threads. And when I zoomed out, I saw the common denominator across every single one of them. Chronic stress, but more specifically, it was chronic activation of the HPA access and the sympathetic nervous system. Your body's fight or flight stress circuitry across all five archetypes and all the sub archetypes underneath them. I saw how unresolved emotions. Self abandonment and nervous system overload. Were keeping the body in a constant state of defense, and when you stay in that state long enough, it starts to reshape everything. We spoke about this earlier, but just to give you a little recap, your hormones flooded with cortisol, deplete of progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone. Your gut shuts down. It feels bloated, inflamed, and unable to absorb the nutrients. You're working so hard to give it. Your brain stays stuck in the amygdala overdrive, where everything feels urgent, unsafe, and impossible to regulate. So when women came to me saying, I'm bloated, I'm exhausted. I can't sleep. I have no libido, and also said, I can't stop overworking. I shut down in relationships. I don't feel safe resting or receiving. I realized these weren't separate issues. They were all adaptations linked through a single psychological and emotional loop. And that loop was survival. And that's what led me to create the archetypes because beneath every symptom was a story. And beneath every story was a nervous system that had learned very early on what it had to do in order to feel safe. So now let me introduce you to those stories. The five survival based archetypes that I believe every woman will recognize herself in at least a little. And if one hits a little too close to home, that's not shame, that's recognition. That's your body saying, yes, this is me and I'm ready to finally shift. So in this series, I'm going to walk you through each of the five core archetypes that I've seen over and over again with my clients. This isn't a pop psychology or a personality trend. This isn't like a Buzzfeed quiz that you take once and never look at again. These are nervous system blueprints shaped by survival and written into your cells. So what I'm gonna do today is give you a brief overview of the five core survival archetypes then over the next couple of weeks, I will be diving deep into each archetype so that you can not only learn more of where the origins of this come from, the nervous system blueprint, the biology of it, the neuroscience, and how it internally and externally is expressed in your life, but also how you can begin embodying the gift of how to shift out of this, how to address your physical, mental, energetic, and spiritual bodies. So let's dive into the five core archetypes. So for a quick little preview of what's coming, the burnout archetype is for the woman who's always doing, always proving, always pushing, and still feels like it's never enough. The self sacrificer is the woman who gives until she's empty. She's deeply nurturing to everyone but herself who confuses love with overextension. The emotionally disconnected is for the one who doesn't feel much anymore, who's high functioning on the outside, but shut down, numb, or dissociated inside the stress Dysregulated archetype is the woman who's. Body is always an overdrive, panic, pain, perfectionism. She might be doing all the right things, but her system never actually turns off. And the body image and identity archetype is for the woman whose worth has been tied to how she looks, what she eats, and whether or not she feels in control. And we go a little bit deeper because each of these archetypes connect directly to the way that we relate to food or our bodies and our emotional power. So for every nervous system pattern, there's a shadow archetype that shows up at the table, whether it's restriction or binging, or obsession or avoidance, control or collapse. Your relationship to food is a mirror for your relationship to yourself. So as I walk you through each core archetype, I'll also show you how it connects the food and body shadows I see in my work, like the Punisher, the Starver, the numb nibbler, the mirror eater, the Craver, the binger. And you may recognize these from my recent workshop, pleasure Power in the Plate where we dove into the origin of each archetype. These patterns aren't just about food. They are unprocessed emotion, nervous system dysregulation, and identity stuck in survival. And in this series, we're gonna pull back the current on all of it so you can stop blaming yourself for the ways that your body tried to cope and start reclaiming your energy, your voice, and your wholeness from the inside out. Because the version of you that learned how to survive, she got you here. But the version of you that's ready to feel nourished, rest, expand, and receive well, she's leading the way forward. So if this episode hit home, if you found yourself nodding along, maybe even tearing up, I want you to know that this is just the beginning. You're not here because you're broken. You're here because your body's wise enough to get your attention and your soul while she's ready for deeper work. And for some reason, my voice is the one that you feel connected with, and that's okay. So in this series, we're gonna decode the patterns your body has been living out for years without shame, without bypassing, and without pretending that healing is just about another protocol. We're not gonna be connecting it all. And if you're anything like me, this is gonna be relieving because I know all of this information, because I needed to find this out for myself. So here I am who've done all the work, gathered all the information from every single layer, and I'm bringing it to you for free. and if you're ready to stop performing. and start embodying it, then don't miss the next episode where I'll be diving into the first archetype, the burnout archetype. She's exhausted, but she can't stop proving herself. She's productive, praised, and completely disconnected from her body. And the cost is well, her health, her joy, her ability to receive. And if you wanna take this work even deeper right now I created something that will change the way you relate to food power and your body forever. Pleasure. Power in the plate is my signature workshop that guides you through six food and body shadow archetypes, and I mentioned in this episode we explain how each pattern was born from emotional suppression, nervous system adaptation, and deep unmet needs, and how to finally meet them with compassion, nourishment, and power. This workshop isn't about another food plan, it's actually a portal back to your truth.
